Prop Pitch Checker
There are all kinds of good tools available to make
sure that all your prop blades are at the same pitch. Unfortunately,
most all of them are expensive. Except this one.
The black and stainless gizmo is from Lowes, costs
about $6. The double bubble is from Big Lots, costs $1. The double
bubble is glued to a rusty piece of plumbing strap with a 90 degree
bend in it, and uses an old AN4 bolt and wingnut, cost is nil.
Put them together with the bolt just tight enough to keep things
in place but still adjustable, hold them up against the flat side
of the prop and they ought to look like this:
If your prop has a square tip, then it's really
easy. Hold the flat plastic part against the bottom of the prop,
square with the end, and raise or lower the prop until the prop
blade is level. Now twist the strap until the other bubble is
just touching one of it's two lines. Rotate the prop and try it
on the next blade, they ought to match.
If not, you know what to do.
Fix it.
